What is the difference between a tri-fold, bi-fold, and gate-fold brochure?
A bi-fold brochure is one fold down the middle, creating four panels (front, inside left, inside right, back). A tri-fold has two folds, creating six panels (the most common brochure layout). A gate-fold has two outer panels that fold inward to meet in the middle, then sometimes a third center fold, mimicking a gate opening. Tri-fold is the standard for service businesses and event programs. Bi-fold reads as more premium. Gate-fold is reserved for high-impact announcements.
What stock should I print on?
100lb gloss text is the volume standard. It is bright, color-saturated, and feels solid without being stiff. 100lb matte gives a softer, more readable surface for text-heavy brochures. 100lb + UV high gloss makes images and photography pop. 80lb enviro uncoated is the option for eco-positioned brands or anything that needs to be written on.
How long does it take to print and ship brochures?
Standard production is 7 days or less from the date you approve your proof. Proofs typically arrive within one business day of file upload. So order Monday, proof Tuesday, approve Tuesday, shipped or ready for pickup by the following Tuesday. Pickup is available at our Huntington, NY shop. Shipping is free on orders over $150.
How do I set up a tri-fold file for print?
Standard letter-size tri-fold (8.5x11 finished, 11x8.5 flat) requires three panels per side. The folding is not symmetric: the inside-fold panel is slightly narrower than the outer panels (about 1/16 inch) so it folds in flat. Most software has tri-fold templates. Upload a PDF with 0.0625 inch bleed per side (1/16 inch per side, 1/8 inch total across each dimension) and a 0.125 inch safe area inside trim. Our preflight team flags issues before printing.
Can I get a brochure in a non-standard size?
The configurator supports the common sizes: 8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17, and 11x25.5 for gate-folds. For custom dimensions, contact us before ordering and we will price it out. Most non-standard brochures are quoted manually rather than configured live.
