Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 14pt and 16pt business cards?
The number refers to the thickness of the stock in points (thousandths of an inch). 14pt is the volume standard for most businesses and feels solid in the hand. 16pt is noticeably thicker and reads as more premium. 18pt with matte or silk lamination is the heaviest standard stock and the most distinctive card we carry. The price difference between 14pt and 16pt is usually one or two dollars per 500 cards.
Should I get AQ coating, UV, matte, or soft-touch?
AQ (aqueous) coating is the default. It seals the print and resists smudging. UV is a high-gloss coating that makes colors pop but cards can stick together in humidity. Matte is a flat finish that looks professional and reads well in low light. Soft-touch laminate has a velvety hand feel and signals premium. If a customer asks you to write a note on the card, choose writable AQ.
What file format should I upload?
PDF is the standard. CMYK color mode. 300 dpi. 0.0625 inch bleed on each side (1/16 inch per side, 1/8 inch total across each dimension), so a 3.5x2 card should be saved as 3.625x2.125. Place anything important inside the trim line with a 0.125 inch safe area. If you only have a Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or PNG file, our preflight team can flag issues before printing.
How long does it take to receive proof and print?
After you upload your file and place the order, you receive an emailed proof within one business day. Once you approve the proof, production takes 7 days or less. So the typical timeline is order Monday, proof Tuesday, approved Tuesday, shipped or ready for pickup by the following Tuesday at the latest.
Can I get spot UV or foil on my business cards?
Yes. Spot UV business cards have a glossy clear UV layer applied to specific areas of your design (typically the logo) on top of a matte laminated 18pt card. Metallic foil business cards have stamped gold, silver, or rose gold foil on selected design elements. Both are configurator options on the product page with live pricing.
